The standard Bach bass trombone has a very good feel between the open horn and the valve system. With the addition of the Thayer valve, the valve body becomes so open that it is difficult to feel a difference in resistance between the open horn and the addition of the valve tubing. This is due to the unique design of the Thayer unit and how the air is channeled through the valve tubing.
